NFT (non-fungible token): all news and analytics

NFT is the abbreviation of the English term “Non Fungible Token”, which in French means “non-fungible token”. A token or token is a digital asset issued by a blockchain – we can quote bitcoin, for blockchain of the same name, or even ether, for Ethereum blockchain. These tokens are fungible, which means that one bitcoin is similar to another, we can not distinguish them, like euros or dollars.

But a blockchain can issue non-fungible tokens, ie. digital assets, each with unique features. In this case, one token is no longer necessarily equal to another. This is how NFT technology offers non-fungible tokens with a specific cryptography layer based on an ERC (Etherum Request for Comment) blockchain. Thanks to this unique encryption and the included metadata, the token can then serve as an identification certificate for any digital object (a work of art, a tweet, a video game object, etc.).

If the concept is already several years old, it exploded in 2021. In particular, the art market sees it as a way to enter the digital age.

But all technology has its opponents, and the biggest criticism of NFTs is not the least: Like all other cryptocurrencies, production requires enormous computing power and energy, and all of this has an impact that is not insignificant on the planet.
