“Muscle your heart”, a charity day organized at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium to raise funds and raise awareness about children suffering from heart failure.
Today, nearly one million children are born with a heart defect, including 8,000 in France.. 95% of infants manage to grow up compared to only 50% half a century ago. Scientific and technical advances over the last few decades have enabled better care of children with congenital heart disease. In addition, many associations in France are mobilizing for this cause and in particular: the association of the heartin Pessac, near Bordeaux.
Created in 1994the association Liens du Cœur accompanies and supports children with congenital heart disease and their families on a daily basis.
The goal is to enable hospitals to follow these young children outside the hospital environment to help them at home and outside.

In addition to care, it is above all a matter of‘improve living conditions of the people with heart defects. To achieve this, many people volunteer for the association.. In 2017, the association started another project construction of a family home to improve their conditions.
Congenital heart diseasewhat is it exactly?
It’s heart disease which finds its origin aftera heart defect present from birth. The child is then still only a fetus, but its heart does not develop properly. For babies, the medical follow-up is different depending on the type of congenital heart disease. Some are benign and others require additional medical follow-up with drug treatment and sometimes surgery.
A daily match is therefore conducted by the Association les Liens du Cœur in close collaboration with Haut-Lévêque hospital .
To achieve this, the association offers children and their families extensive support. In 2018, a shuttle was set up to allow children and their parents to take to the Haut-Lévêque Hospital in Pessac.
The association works with three shelters in Bordeaux: The La Pelouse House, the Ronald McDonald House and the Saint-Jean Family House. These allow children and their relatives to have housing closer to Bordeaux University Hospital to follow their care. It is with this in mind that in 2023 a new reception center will be built on the site of the Haut-Lévêque hospital to facilitate travel and access to the cardiology department.
In particular, the future reception center built by LES LIENS DU CŒUR will make it possible to respond to the current shortage of local accommodation. It will facilitate the presence of families with hospitalized children … An essential element to accompany the care period and promote healingDoctor Julie Thomas, Cardiologist in the Department of Congenital Heart Disease at the Haut-Lévêque Hospital at Bordeaux University Hospital and Vice President of LIENS DU CŒUR
In addition to financial and material assistance, the association mobilizes to entertain these young children. To boost their daily lives, Liens du Cœur organizes wellness workshops and playful animations (Christmas fair, distribution of chocolates for Easter). As for parents, they can benefit from a library and dating cafeer to interact with other parents in a relaxed environment.
In addition to his actions, the association participates in a therapeutic education program within the hospital to communicate about diet, oral health and knowledge about its disease.
Among the association’s projects, there is one that should continue to help these young children and impart values to them: it is the “Sports-Health” program.. It suggests gently reconnecting with sports, knowing how to have fun as a team to build new relationships.
As part of improving the living conditions of sick people, the association creates many well-being workshops: reiki, art therapy, hypnosis, osteopathy, reflexology.
