KIPSTA Unveils Official Match Ball for the 2022-23 Ligue 1 Season

KIPSTA and the Professional Football League (LFP) unveil the new collection of official Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Ligue 2 BKT balls that will be used on the field for the 2022-23 season. By becoming the official supplier of Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Ligue 2 BKT balls, KIPSTA is demonstrating its technical know-how and expertise at the highest level of French football.

The new Ligue 1 official ball Uber Eats will make its debut at the Trophée des Champions between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Nantes on July 31, while the Ligue 2 official ball BKT will make its debut on the first day of the weekend of July 30 .

High-level requirements drive product development

Professional players – the brand ambassadors on the pitch – wear the company’s goalkeeper shoes or gloves during their matches in official competitions. This is an opportunity to test KIPSTA products at the highest level and for the brand to showcase its expertise, make further progress and thus continue to offer the best range of products accessible to all. To support KIPSTA in its continuous progress, these ambassadors exchange ideas throughout the year, participate in workshops and propose improvements that are listened to, analyzed and implemented on the different prototypes. Because KIPSTA wants to make football accessible to everyone, the same products are offered to all players, both professional and amateur.

Balls with the FIFA QUALITY PRO label since 2016. All KIPSTA products have been designed, made and tested in France since 1998. The brand’s flagship balls bear the FIFA QUALITY PRO label. By launching the development of an offer exclusively dedicated to football, KIPSTA has chosen to focus on two products: shoes and balls.

From 2016, the brand has developed its expertise by offering FIFA PRO standard footballs. Four years later, following a consultation launched in March 2021, the board of directors of LFP appointed KIPSTA, the football brand of the Decathlon group, as supplier of official Ligue 1 footballs to Uber Eats and of Ligue 2 BKT for five years. , from 2022 to 2027.

Atmospheric graphics from Kipsta

The graphic design of these balls combines technicality and sobriety. The graphical details combine several concepts that KIPSTA and the LFP have in common.

For the Ligue 1 Uber Eats ball, two strong values emerge from the graphics: intensity and rivalry. The emblem of this collective sport is the passion that springs from the greatest rivalry and is represented on both sides of the ball by some of the legendary clashes that have written the history of the championship.

In tribute to the 90th anniversary of the French football championship in 2023, it lists some of the 19 historic clubs that have won championships since the competition’s inception. Olympique Lyonnais, Olympique de Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain and AS Saint-Etienne, as well as RC Lens and LOSC Lille, face each other on the different boards.

The choice of colors – blue, white and red – is a reminder that for the first time a French company has been appointed as the official supplier of footballs for the elite of French football.

The design of the Ligue 2 BKT ball offers a more graphic style that reflects football’s constant and ongoing evolution in fashion and trends. From the tip of Finistère to the Island of Beauty, from the Aquitaine region to the lines of the Grand Est, the balloon pays tribute to the geography and the boundaries of the territory – the story behind the balloon.

State-of-the-art balloons

The technology used for the Ligue 1 Uber Eats and BKT League 2 balls is thermobonding (seamless ball). The balls offer an increased playing feel thanks to the structured microfibre component, accompanied by foam and grooves. The balls are exclusively designed by KIPSTA and are characterized by high ball flight stability.

In addition to standard testing, the Kipsta certification unit, made up of field test engineers, also conducts usability testing to design and objectively compare ball performance through:

  • Specific protocols and tests related to the use of the products.
  • Recruiting qualified testers to evaluate the functions of the products.
  • Analysis of the results using statistical tools.

These tests cover general aspects such as durability, resistance and long-term inflation, as well as five features that reflect the technical nature of the ball.

Technical features :

  • Bladder: The bladder is a “High Rebound Advanced” bladder to which polyester fabric panels are bonded for optimum spherical shape, pressure resistance and rebound quality.
  • Panels: The ball consists of 12 textured panels in polyurethane (PU) microfibre combined with POE (Polyolefin Elastomer) foam to meet the highest technical requirements.
  • Manufacturing Process: The 12 panels are sealed, for better spherical shape and resistance. The grooves on the outer surface guarantee excellent trajectory stability.
