Véronique Saüquère continues to color the daily lives of sick children

Two and five years ago, financial support from Dax Lion’s Club made it possible to customize closet doors in eight bedrooms. “Our collaboration with the pediatric ward is an old story. It started with helping with computerization, then with the arrival of a group of artists from Chambéry to decorate the ceilings that are visible to children when they lie down, and finally the work with Véronique Saüquère, for which a budget of 6,000 has been set aside Euro. , ”Recalled Jean-Louis Parrens, protocol manager for the Dacquoise division of the Lion’s Club.

“A little cash”

In order to continue this work of lighting up the premises in the children’s rooms in the spa town’s hospital ward, the financial boost from the Magic Association at the hospital came. “In addition to our magicians’ actions in 17 establishments across the country, we also make children’s dreams come true. But during the pandemic, unfortunately, this part could not take place as usual, which made it possible to have some cash that we would use intelligently. A tender was therefore launched for 20,000 euros to be distributed to several hospitals. Dax responded by continuing what had started with Véronique Saüquère, whose work we are pleased to discover today, ”said Stéphane Henry, director of the association born in Tours in 2006.

Véronique Saüquère had also adapted some consultation room doors.

Sandrine Monchiet, who has been head of health in the service for eleven years, for her part, is delighted to have thrown herself into the chance of this call for projects. “We do our best to give them the care they need, but this kind of realization and moments like the ones we spent with Claude and his magic tricks every Thursday are the little extra things that make our work, the welcome. and the children’s stay. more comfortable. We also like to work more and more with local associations and artists. Claude Bernier, known for his magician’s blue satin jacket, has worked in Dax’s pediatric service for twelve years and is being replaced by his colleague Gérald Vinatier, as the latter comes for treatment in the spa town.

“What gives me the most joy is receiving pictures or emails from parents showing reproductions of their children”

A well-supported service

All the pressure of the result was therefore on the artist’s shoulders! But Véronique Saüquère did not work alone in her corner when she asked the future recipients of her works in their room what they wanted as a universe, as a theme. “I had asked for a kind of small specification, to respect it and put my mark on it. On the other hand, it was not possible to work directly on the door because the result had to withstand steam cleaning and bleach. Thanks to Seripub, the drawings were therefore made on adhesive surfaces to adhere to. Afterwards, what gives me the most joy is receiving pictures or emails from parents showing reproductions of their children who have drawn and redrawn what they saw in the hospital. Besides, there are still three empty closets! Says the artist mischievously.

Each room was entitled to a different work according to the instructions given by the children, consulted for this project.

The hospital’s pediatric service is well identified by the various associations and is quite well supported. This is why, in order to enable other structures to benefit from local solidarity, donors are targeting them. This was recently the case with the charity tournament La Biscouette in rugby, which was instead offered to donate to the association Les Pétales de jour, which consists of several people from the child psychiatry department at the day hospital on the site of Lanot.
