La Maison Rouge Strasbourg Hotel & Spa, 5 stars and Art Deco on all floors

Zapping Men UP On Ted’s Road – Episode #7

After 3 years of ambitious restoration, Maison Rouge Strasbourg Hotel & Spa has fully earned its 5 stars! Now part of the Marriott group, under the Autograph Collection brand, the establishment in the heart of the city swings its brick facade to better reveal its sophisticated, chic interior.

A beautiful tribute to Art Deco and a spa that intoxicates the senses

A wrought iron canopy: The entrance to the Maison Rouge Strasbourg Hotel and Spa holds the key to a 1930s layout brimming with Alsatian traditions. From the oldest inn in town – the red brick facade is mentioned in 1387! – nothing remains. And with good reason, the Red House of the place Kléber, many times enlarged, burned, restored, was finally destroyed in 1973. The establishment that succeeds it, now one of the most beautiful spa hotels in Alsace, is 3 minutes away, on the rue des Francs-Bourgeois. History will remember the illustrious guests who stayed in the very first hotel, from Gutenberg to de Gaulle via Victor Hugo, Churchill or Mistinguett.
131 rooms, including 7 suites, compete for the favor of a chic atmosphere where Art Deco and discreet Alsatian motifs elegantly decorate the space: moldings, tobacco leather headboard, beautiful paintings on the walls and marble bathroom in black and white for a successful image. From some rooms you can see the cathedral, but the 75 m2 of the Maison Rouge Signature Suite offers without a doubt the best view.
It is on the 2nd floor that the 150 m2 of the spa awaits you with a design both sober and warm: hammam, sauna, sensory shower and this amazing Jacuzzi® all around and everything in wood, like lightning: a nod to the new vinotherapy treatments in collaboration with Vinesime. In this spa, the Burgundian brand signed its very first establishment in the region. A fitness room completes the facilities. No excuse to exercise, it’s open 24 hours a day.

From mixology to gastronomy, the bar-restaurant 1387 relives the classics

Beige club chairs, a red sofa, a black fireplace and this Art Deco geometry even in the stained glass windows: the bar of the Maison Rouge hotel invites you to try the signature cocktails of mixologist César Debus. Take the time to chat with this former medical student, son and grandson of Alsatian brewers. Local eaux-de-vie feature prominently on the menu alongside beautifully lifted creations. The requirement? Food-cocktail or food-wine combinations conceived with chef Jonathan Rauch: hay-smoked lomillo at a low temperature, scallop carpaccio in the shell smoked under a bell jar, the taste is as appealing as the sight. The chef also brings back local recipes such as this semi-cooked foie gras, herb crumble & seasonal fruit chutney or this Heimbach trout in gravelax. The table chooses cheeses from Maison Lorho, the only one run by a few MOFs. Tomorrow morning you will have breakfast in the Mistinguett rooms with pastel colored walls and velvet armchairs: Alsace is largely honored there, in savory and sweet versions: sausages and cheeses, Streussel and Kougelhopf are yours. Couldn’t you taste it all? Come back for Sunday brunch during a weekend in Alsace. And if you take the plane, treat yourself one last time: a transfer organized by the hotel in its very own Rolls-Royce, a luxury gem from the 1970s!
