Which studies should work in NFTs, cryptocurrencies and the meta-verse?

The areas of cryptocurrency, NFTs and metaverse have grown in importance. And the job prospects are promising. What research do you need to do to work in these areas?

The Bitcoin crackdown in May last year clearly put investors in a panic. Nevertheless, the question of pursuing a degree in cryptocurrency seems less and less absurd, as these virtual currencies are now well-established. And the question also arises for NFTs, these certificates that attest to the value of a virtual good. In March 2021, a digital work of art was sold for $ 69.3 million at Christie’s. As for the metaverse, Facebook (Meta) announced in October 2021 that it wanted to hire 10,000 highly qualified profiles in Europe to build its metaverse.

Studies at an engineering or business school

Is there a need for specific training? Most often, Grandes Ecoles offers training available for bac +3. This can be a specialized master’s or courses as part of a PGE (grande école program) oriented metaverse, cryptocurrency or NFT. “The design aspect, artificial intelligence, machine learning or even coding, is intervening in the engineering school, where students are trained and prepared for the implementation of these new technologies in digital engineering.”, explains François Stéphan, Director of ECE. Esilv also offers a fintech major. The university is no exception. Since 2019, the Sorbonne has offered a master’s degree in financial technology data.

Business schools, for their part, have for several years offered courses in digital finance, known as “fintech”, where the concepts of cryptocurrency, blockchain, big data and their applications in the banking and stock market sector are taught. . “The goals pursued are quite simple: to prepare our young people for this new commercial facet of the world of work, to provide them with technical skills that enable them to collaborate with engineers, and, of course, to encourage them to entrepreneurship.” details Nathalie Janson, cryptocurrency specialist and professor at Neoma.

Facebook is setting up its school with Simplon

Recently, however, schools have emerged that are 100% dedicated to these sectors. We can mention, for example, the opening in September 2022 of Metaverse College. The La Défense establishment, part of the College of Paris, aims to train future developers, project managers and meta-designers. For its founder and director, Ridouan Abagri, the school is a “bet on the future, while France remains the cradle of the metaverse”. The school offers a curriculum that starts from the 3rd year and focuses on the metaverse’s applications in the current professional landscape: AI, the luxury market and digital marketing, computer science or even metaheritage. As for Meta, in June the Facebook group announced the launch of a “metaverse academy” in France for an opening scheduled for the start of the 2022 school year with the Simplon code school. The school hopes to recruit 30% of the women without a diploma.

In schools, entrepreneurs are also in the starting shot. Clément Fagette, 22, is an engineering student at Ecole Mines-Nancy and co-founder with David Fereres of the Deep-Future collective. This project, whose activity consists in creating works of art in a procedural way and then converting them into NFTs, thanks to the school’s support and funding. “While these themes may still be subject to doubt and distrust, the school has listened”says Clement.

Opportunities in all sectors

In terms of outlets, there is plenty to do. According to François Stephan, these new technologies are “21st century technology”. Whether it is in finance, art or digital marketing, whether it is a start-up company or a large group, these competencies are increasingly in demand. So we recruit developers, meta designers and data architects everywhere. And that’s just the beginning. “We will gradually integrate NFTs into daily use,” says Clément Fagette. “Bitcoin has been a real revolution in the global financial system,” adds Nathalie Janson. Especially since we will find NFTs, metavers and cryptocurrencies in more and more different areas: in real estate using “digital twins”, in administration via virtual identity documents and secured by blockchain, or even through delivery of any kind where they authenticity and compliance with certain criteria for goods can be checked in the form of NFT.
