Races in Brive, which was supposed to gather a thousand children on Friday, have been canceled due to the heat

The organizers did not hesitate long: this Tuesday, June 14, CAB Athlé decided to cancel the children’s races in Courir à Brive, which was to gather a thousand young runners on Friday, June 17 at Bouriottes, between Brive and Malemort (Corrèze), from 18:30 to 20:30.

It is the intense heat wave that will hit, especially in Corrèze, from tomorrow, Wednesday 15 June, that explains this decision.

A very early heat wave is expected this week, Météo-France announces

The organizers published the information on their Facebook page this Tuesday in the middle of the morning:

“Due to the heat wave, the event on June 17 has been canceled. We are committed to making this decision to avoid putting children and those around them in danger. All those who have already signed up will be refunded as soon as possible. short deadlines. Thank you for your understanding “, write the organizers.

“It’s a decision by the president, who is also a doctor,” explains Thomas Chambon, who knows that Météo France reports up to 39 ° C in Corrèze on Friday.

“We were looking for solutions, changing the schedule, cooling the kids down, getting more shade … But that’s not fair. It’s not a temperature to run. We were considering postponing the race until next week, but it seems too complicated. . “

Breeds that are incompatible with the prevention instructions

The club already had 640 enrollments at the start of the week and counted on the presence of a thousand young people, from 5 to 14 years old. Depending on their age, participants had to cover between 700 meters and 2 kilometers. An effort that is not in line with the prevention instructions issued by government services since the beginning of the week.

A disappointment worthy of the energy invested

The organizers are obviously disappointed. “We’ve been preparing for this race for a long time with new features, such as running on Bouriottes, offering activities to discover athletics … We believe in it, in this formula.” The separation of children’s and adults’s could easily be on the agenda again in 2023. “All the work we have done is not lost,” reassures Thomas Chambon.

The last edition of Courir à Brive for children was held in 2019. That year it was the rain that spoiled the party a bit.
