eBay acquires NFT platform KnownOrigin

The famous e-commerce site eBay has just acquired the NFT KnownOrigin platform. This acquisition confirms the company’s ambitions in its transition to blockchain technologies.

eBay buys KnownOrigin

E-commerce giants eBayformalized this week the acquisition of the non-fungible token (NFT) platform Known Origin :

This platform, created in 2018 by 3 entrepreneurs from Manchester, is essentially focused on artistic NFTs. It is present on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain.

According to Jamie Iannone, the acquisition of KnownOrigin is a logical step in the company’s development. In fact, this one looks in the NFTs, one collection category per se :

“EBay is the preferred choice for people around the world who are looking for the perfect addition […] to their collection, and with this acquisition we will remain a leading site as our community adds more and more digital collectibles. »

A strong Web3 transition

If the amount of the transaction has not been communicated, it is not surprising to see the US company continue with such an acquisition. In fact, the platform allows the purchase and sale of NFT since May 2021. In addition, we learned last month that she officially launched her first collection with the theme of hockey player Wayne Gretzky.

For its part, the platform KnownOrigin was also pleased with this acquisition from eBay. It underlines on this occasion the will of the latter to speed up your Web 3.0 transition :

“During our meetings, they impressed us with their enthusiasm for learning, adopting and immersing themselves in Web3. We truly believe that this will help attract even more creators and collectors to the space, it will help educate and inspire us [les futurs] creators. »

Thanks to this operation, eBay is offering itself expertise in the NFT sector. In light of the company’s regular announcements, there is no doubt that it does not intend to stop there with its transition to our ecosystem technologies.
