Cauliflower ears, impressive physique, laid-back demeanor and strong resonant voice, Frank Georgiades (35) does not go unnoticed in the streets of Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse (Landes). He is one of those players who is often called “from the shadows” who has always scrapped and defended the body and soul of the jersey.
Third line of formation passed the left pillar late on, this big guy agreed to give himself, for Rugby newsabout his loyalty to the two clubs in his life, the United States Tyros and Pleasure RC (Yvelines), as well as his vision of amateur rugby.
A double license last season
” It is a brave spare wheel that gives 300% That’s how it is Kevin Kahn defines Franck Georgiades, one of his best friends and teammates on the side of Plaisir and Tyrosse. It must be said that the person in question had an eventful season 2021-2022. The Saint-Cyr-l’École native first took his license at his heart club in Plaisir (Federal 2) in Île-de-France. But 7 hours away, his second heart club in Tire (Federal 1) found itself in great difficulty as the left pillar. Victor Hontebeyrie alias “Fifou” was injured before the young Baptiste Discazaux also ended up in hospital. The Landes club therefore encouraged Georgiades and offered to sign up for a double license.
“I took up the challenge and told myself I should play again with my best friend ‘le Roux’ (Kevin Kahn) and my friends, just to have fun,” he says. However, a new injury, this time by the proprietor Gaetan Dominiciwill drive him as the owner of Fédérale 1. “I found myself playing 13 matches with Tyrosse and none with Plaisir (Fédérale 2)”, laughs Franck Georgiades before continuing: “Even when I did not play, it was here n It was never easy to cope because I only knew it at the last minute, so it was difficult to get back on Plaisir ”.
The man is not willing to work either. His days are full. Franck Georgiades works as an electrician the week before he ended his free weekends with a couple of construction sites with his company called “Ma Caille”, a nickname given to his group of friends. The latter, who is installed in Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse, traveled on Friday at Plaisir for evening training before playing the Sunday match and returning Monday to 6 p.m. Landestransportation is paid for by the Yvelines club.
“I’ve never seen myself play anywhere else”
The love affair between Franck Georgiades and rugby would envy more than one. It was at the age of 9, near Plaisir, that this resident of Ile-de-France started rugby alongside the current second line from Tyros, Kevin Kahn. “Our first coach was Christian Savalois,” Franck recalls. “He is a former UST player who went to Plaisir to work and who accompanied us to Seniors. It was he who advised Kevin to continue the adventure in Tyrosse and therefore indirectly to me ”. He regularly returned to Landes and even invited himself to a couple of training sessions: “I did certain sessions and I had fun! There was a great atmosphere. I found the same family spirit as at Plaisir”.
In 2012, Franck Georgiades joined La Fougère (the name of the Tyrosse stadium). He first started with the National B jersey of the time before tasting the seniors’ lawns. The big guy has chained the seasons, lived strong moments and tasted the final stages of the division. But 3 years ago, his career should have stopped. “I had decided to quit rugby because I had just had a little boy. When I was about to stop, my best friend, who I played with at Plaisir, said to me, ‘why don’t you play a little boy? fight in the anniversary for fun? “I got caught up in the game and I played 6 games with them during the year. Then there was the health crisis that stopped everything.
His voice continues to crush the words in the busy streets of Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse. She gets even stronger when she talks about loyalty to her two clubs: “I have never seen myself play in a club other than Tyrosse or Plaisir. It is a perfect balance, it allows me to play with my friends, come back to see my family in the Paris region and have fun ”.
A personality in itself
Franck Georgiades never walks 10 meters without being stopped by a supporter of the Tyrosse club. Here, the fervor of the oval ball is incredible. He especially regrets not being able to go in step dance in the Paris region. “They want to say to themselves, but what makes him? In Tyrosse, the fervor is incomparable. Plaisir is not really a rugby country, whereas in Tyrosse, we recognize the supporters in the streets, everyone comes to the stadium on Sundays. The atmosphere is huge, especially when you meet big teams “, Franck explains before continuing:
I saw myself raising my little one here. I love the sea, rugby, village festivals … It’s the best region in France. I like to fight in thorns, sometimes even on the verge of failure. I’m a ball player, I like that! Outside? I am a very outgoing person, I like meeting people, partying, rugby is meeting and playing together. I like to dance, fool around! Third half, I do not miss it at all! It is just as important as training. Without going to profit, but beer despite defeat or victory is important to get ahead together.
Atypical, evening host and cheerful, Franck Georgiades does not fail to be accommodated by his friends. “He is very funny. He speaks very loudly. He is cheerful and knows how to catch the attention of clowns around him. Otherwise he is besides that a very sincere and endearing person. On the pitch he has to cheat a little in melee to exist. But hey , as he is a good size, the judges take him seriously! For the anecdote, at a wedding, he had gradually taken over the animation. And suddenly today’s DJ saw him sitting on a chair! “, laugh Adel Fellahone of his longtime friends and director of the gym in Clermont.
“I feel good physically”
“I also remember a match against Massy. Our right-handed player was tired, we win by 2 or 3 points and we are pushed 5 meters from our line. Our right hand goes and Franck returns. The scrum drops when he’s back, and there, punishment for us! We hit the key, we win and thank you goodbye. And now he just says it to our manager François Gelez: “And remember the scrum against Massy! In fact, because of his personality, he does very well for group life. He’s not necessarily the best player, but he pulls everyone up,” says Kevin Kahn , his lifelong friend.
For him, rugby is a pleasure, not a job. Parties and friends: this is his philosophy of life. “I’m feeling good physically, so I have to have another season of Plaisir!”, Announces Franck Georgiades. A club that smells good of amateur rugby!
