KATE HAD DIFFICULT PREGNANCY AND WAS ADVISED NOT TO HAVE A THIRD CHILD

Early in her journey as a mother, Kate was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum, a debilitating pregnancy complication that causes severe nausea, vomiting and often weight loss and dehydration. This illness forced Kate to be hospitalized during her three pregnancies.

Kate was also concerned that the medical problems she faced during her pregnancy made William worried about her health. She remembered the days she was hospitalized:

“William didn’t feel like he could do much to help him. It’s hard for everyone to see you suffer and not be able to do anything about it.”

“Your discussion of having a larger family raises compelling questions about sustainability and fairness… Large families are not sustainable,”

said Anne in her letter. Just two months after Anne’s letter was published, Kate and William announced they were expecting their third child, Louis.

With three children, Kate fulfilled her dream of emulating the family she grew up in. ‘True Royal’ founder Nick Bullen analyzed William Kate’s family and said they were unlikely to have a fourth child:

“Kate has always been very keen to follow her parents and have this family of five. She has achieved that and my personal opinion is that they will probably stop there.”

Kate’s parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, had three children, and Kate wanted to emulate that in her own marriage. “I think they feel like they have a pretty perfect family,” Nick added.
