Here is our comparison of the best models from summer 2022

Summer has arrived, high temperatures with it. And the summer of 2022 is particularly characterized by heat waves. Instead of giving in to air conditioning, we’ve selected and tested four fans (Rowenta, Dyson, Ohyama and Xiaomi) to guide you to your future fan best friend.

Shortly said

  • that Xiaomi Mi Smart Standing Fan 2, a low-cost fan that can be controlled by voice. 99 euros at Xiaomi (but often sold out), around 75 euros at Amazon.
  • that Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde, an ultra-advanced ventilator air purifier, with a futuristic design. 699 euros at Dyson
  • that Rowenta Turbo Silence Extreme+, a very powerful propeller fan, with a silent mode perfect for sleeping in the middle of a heat wave. 159 euros at Rowenta, 99 euros at Amazon.
  • that Woozoo from Ohyama, a small fan with a completely circular design, sold for around 70 euros on Amazon. A surprise that no one expected.

Is the summer of 2022 about to break new heat records? Given the incredibly high temperatures in June and the heatwaves in July, all indications are that new heatwaves will continue to hit France in the coming weeks. Who says high heat generally says lack of storage for fans or other air conditioners, and therefore complicated evenings. In this article, we suggest you anticipate your fan purchase before prices rise and stocks are at their lowest.

It should also be remembered that heat has many effects on the body and good practices should be adopted to avoid “heat stroke”: stay hydrated, eat light and avoid going out for hours the hottest are especially sanitary gestures that must be constantly reminded, especially to the most fragile people.

It is possible to invest in an additional air conditioning system to lower the temperature, but the fan is a more practical, cheaper and more ecological solution. We have selected and tested three of them to help you choose from the hundreds of more or less good references on the market.

Xiaomi: connected fans at low prices

The Xiaomi brand is known for its smartphones, computers, scooters, headphones, televisions and light bulbs (in fact for almost everything), and also makes fans. One of their greatest strengths is their all-white, extremely minimalist design, which is light years away from the nagging looks of other competitors. Who says Xiaomi also says connected, the entire Mi Smart Standing Fan series can connect to Wi-Fi to be controlled via the Xiaomi Home app or Google Assistant. “OK Google turn on the fan” is a reality at Xiaomi, although many more options are offered in the Xiaomi Home app.

The reference at Xiaomi is the Mi Smart Standing Fan 2, offered for 99 euros in the Mi Store (but often sold out) and at 75 euros on Amazon. Since we couldn’t find one, we tested the more compact version, the Mi Smart Standing Fan 2 Lite (about 70 euros on Amazon). The quality of the design is there (despite a slightly small foot, it should probably be placed on a chair) and the ventilation is very comfortable, while being silent. Xiaomi proves once again that it knows how to do it in terms of value for money. The app Xiaomi home works very well and allows you to control your fan from your smartphone.

Quiet and powerful: Rowenta Turbo Silence Extreme+

So yeah, on paper the Rowenta tab isn’t the sexiest. Its design is like a lambda fan. It is controlled using an “old-fashioned” wheel, and on the connection side there is nothing. No Wi-Fi module or Bluetooth module on this model, it’s a fan that couldn’t be more classic.

However, the Rowenta Turbo Silence Extreme+ is by far the one that does its job best. Its breath is extremely powerful without making you want to cough, its foot can be easily adjusted to make it height, and to top it off, its night mode is unique. It makes almost no noise, it’s fantastic. Its propeller then spins slowly, giving a gentle sense of freshness without overdoing it. It is by far our favorite fan, especially since its price of 159 euros is rarely used in real life. It is available at 99 euros on Amazon, which makes it a really good value for money fan. Especially considering his performance.

  • The most powerful of our three fans
  • Really quiet silent mode
  • An adjustable foot
  • (But not connected and not very cool design)

The one for advanced: Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde

Shall we introduce Dyson? You probably know the brand for the design of its products. Purifier Cool Formaldehyde is no exception to the rule. Forget the propellers, you can run your hand through this fan while it’s running without any risk. It is undeniably a delicious product that you would like to have in your living room or in your bedroom, which is not the case with other fans.

The Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde is not sold as a fan, but as an air purifier. It filters out a lot of stuff, making it a product in a different category than the previous two references in this article. Everything can be consulted from an extremely complete application, which provides precise information about the outside air and your room.

However, at 699 euros it is mainly a design product. Its ventilation is nothing exceptional, you have to place it high to really feel the fresh air, and above all, the modes that really cool the room are very noisy.

The beautiful, little-known surprise: Woozoo by Ohyama

Coming from a little-known brand, the Woozoo tab proves to be wonderfully efficient in use and competes with well-known brands and models. First, because its ventilation is formidable: the air is stirred is pleasant, the range is long (you can feel it at the other end of the room) and you can orient it in many possible configurations, 180 degrees vertically and horizontally, thanks to its round shape that moves like a telescope.

Another advantage: the “natural breeze” mode. This function reduces the power, but automatically varies the fan power – the result looks like a nice strong cool breeze. This mode offers competitive silence, which makes the ventilation very discreet and makes it easy to fall asleep.

The fan can be fully controlled remotely, without getting up from your sofa once, thanks to a small remote control with on/off buttons; for each power state; to activate the breeze; to control rotations; and even to activate a timer (three timer modes: 1 hour, 2 hours or 4 hours, useful for saving energy).

Small (21 x 29 cm), and quite cute, it goes easily in the living room, on a desk, in a bedroom, with taste. In short, it is a very nice surprise at an affordable price ranging from 68 to 80 euros depending on the color or the seller.
